Statement from City Council Candidate Ken Diamondstone (D-33rd District) Regarding Park Slope Civic Association Forum

“There are major differences between myself and Jo Anne Simon.  She wants to keep studying the Gowanus Canal.  I realize that the canal needs to be cleaned and that an EPA Superfund is the best way to get it done.  Jo Anne Simon’s organization, Brooklyn Speaks, supports keeping Forest City Ratner in control of the Atlantic Yards project if Ratner makes a few changes.  I want to empower the community.

“I have been the first to speak out about the major issues that face this community – opposing luxury housing in Brooklyn Bridge Park, fighting for the Gowanus Superfund, and working to give the community a voice in all major projects.  This campaign is about issues – and I’m the only candidate with a record of standing up and fighting for what matters to this district.  I don’t wait to see what direction the political winds blow before taking action.”
