Momentum is building for Ken Diamondstone’s campaign for the City Council. On Sunday, Diamondstone was endorsed by the Out People of Color Political Action Club (OutPOCPAC), a New York City-based non-partisan, political club of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and two-spirit (LGBTTS) people of color.
“We are confident that Ken Diamondstone will work to advance a progressive legislative and public policy agenda that represents both the values of our club and the best interests of the people of the 33rd District,” said OutPOCPAC co-president Pauline Park.
Diamondstone, a Democrat from Boerum Hill, is a creator of responsible affordable housing and a longtime leader in the LGBT community. If elected, he would become Brooklyn’s first openly gay elected official.
“I am pleased to accept the endorsement of OutPOCPAC,” Diamondstone said. “They have endorsed my campaign because they know I am a real reformer who can make progressive change happen.
“For too long, the LGBT movement has been content with small gains and acceptance,” said Diamondstone. “We can’t settle for acceptance – we must have equal rights and now. When elected, I will be a powerful advocate for the LGBT community that I have worked for so long.”
OutPOCPAC is the latest in the line of progressive organizations to support Diamondstone’s campaign. Diamondstone has also been endorsed by Congressman Major Owens, the League of Humane Voters, the Stonewall Democratic Club and the Jim Owles Democratic Club.
Diamondstone is running in the 39th Council District, which includes all or parts of Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, and Park Slope.
