Getting Results: Disability Issues

Disability Issues:

• Ken spent many years counseling emotionally disabled young people.
• He also worked at Beth Israel Hospital for eight years coordinating a team counseling people disabled by heroin addiction.
• Ken is a life member of the 504 Democratic Club, the New York City political arm of the disabilities community.
• Ken has been instrumental in obtaining grants for the Rainbow Heights Club, a Brooklyn agency for those disabled by mental illness.
• And for over 20 years Ken provided service to people disabled by HIV/AIDS.

LGBT Issues:

• Ken represented Lambda Independent Democrats in strategy sessions to pass NYS SONDA legislation (Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act). As a board member of Lambda, he continues to fight for the passage of marriage equality legislation.
• Ken and his life partner Joe Kopitz are strong supporters of The Griot Circle, a group of LGBT seniors of color. The Griot Circle helps many to live more openly and with dignity.
• In 1986, Ken co-founded the Touch Community Dinners, an organization that has served over 60,000 meals to people with HIV/AIDS. The Dinners are still going strong.
